Glimpses of Rome through the cardinal viewports of Trajan's Column

During my stay in Rome, I was lucky enough to be provided the rare opportunity to access Trajan’s Column. While I certainly find the history and construction of this building fascinating, what I find most interesting about it is the experience of climbing up through it, and how the small windows, each one oriented in a cardinal direction, constantly re-orient you to the city as you climb up through the column.
