A hovering pavilion with sauna and tea room.

Completely surrounded by dense native vegetation, the pavilion is discovered after a short walk through the brush and trees from the nearby residence. Inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House and Glenn Murcutt’s Marie Short House, the pavilion hovers above the slightly sloped ground plane, supported by twelve slender steel columns. An intimate, central courtyard open to the sky balances the outward relationship of the pavilion with the surrounding forest. A formal japanese teahouse provides for a ceremonial space to enjoy tea.
