Three dimensional bent frames that unify space.

For this remodel project to an existing 1970s West Seattle Residence, a structural beam reinforcement is used as a means to unify the living, dining, and kitchen spaces. Inspired by artist Sol LeWitt’s ‘Incomplete Open Cubes’, a series of three ‘bent’ casework frames are carefully placed throughout the existing space. Each serves a specific purpose: 1) to conceal the beam reinforcement; 2) to contain a new living room fireplace and chimney; and 3) to serve as an indoor/outdoor bench at the entryway.
