At the center of the pavilion is a pond that reflects the sky.
Influenced by lessons learned from our rural Rain Harvest Home, this urban residence applies rain harvesting principles to the expansion of a 1970s concrete residence. Located in the beautiful historic neighborhood of Coyoacan, nearby Frida Kahlo’s famous Casa Azul, our design utilizes the existing concrete structure and foundations of the original residence, balanced by the incorporation of a new timber and steel framed pavilion that is strategically sited to create private outdoor spaces between it and an existing stone street wall façade. A series of smaller courtyard spaces are carefully placed throughout to enhance privacy between bedroom spaces. At the center of the pavilion is a pond that reflects the sky, below which is placed a large rain harvesting tank to store rainwater for potable and greywater throughout the year.
