Project by The Miller/Hull Partnership
Principal-in-Charge: Craig Curtis, Project Manager & Project Architect: Robert Hutchison
Newhalem, WA, Completed 2001
A single gable roof shelters spaces used for men's and women's restrooms, outdoor displays to guide visitors to regional attractions, and a interpretive room containing displays pertaining to the history of the Seattle City Light Skagit Dam project. The simple vernacular building form relates to the numerous worker houses which comprise the historic town of Newhalem. A decommissioned steel turbine wheel serves as a sign to attract visitors to the center. Steel embeds cast in the concrete slab create an orientation map of the Skagit Dam project.
