Skagit Information Center
Skagit Information CenterProject by The Miller/Hull PartnershipPrincipal-in-Charge: Craig Curtis, Project Manager & Project Architect: Robert HutchisonNewhalem, WA, Constructed 2001A single gable roof shelters spaces used for men's and women's restrooms, outdoor displays to guide visitors to regional attractions, and a interpretive room containing displays pertaining to the history of the Seattle City Light Skagit Dam project. The simple vernacular building form relates to the numerous worker houses which comprise the historic town of Newhalem. A decommissioned steel turbine wheel serves as a sign to attract visitors to the center. Steel embeds cast in the concrete slab create an orientation map of the Skagit Dam project.
