Duwamish Revealed
Duwamish RevealedSeattle, WA. Call for Artists Entry Project by Robert Hutchison ArchitectureProject Team: Robert Hutchison, Scott ClaassenCollaborating Artist: Mary Ann PetersOur project employs details from the structures that mark the industrial history of the Duwamish, from drawbridges to tribal fishing weirs to shipping containers. We envision using their placement and function along the river as sources to reveal the less obvious aspects of the environment. Our installation's core material will be honeycomb aluminum, an industrial product used extensively by the Boeing Company in the construction of airplanes. It has mirroring properties that hold and accentuate whatever you see through it.  As people move in and around the piece their perspective of the landscape will shift with them, influenced by the transparency and reflectivity of overlapping panels.  While static, the installation will simultaneously animate the site, casting patterned shadows in multiple directions as light passes over and through its form.
