A house that carves a courtyard into a steep site

This large residence to house a family of multiple generations is situated on a steep waterfront property on the west shore of Lake Washington. The house is strategically sited to respect a large Douglas Fir tree located at the center of the site, resulting in a courtyard oriented to the south. The exterior of the residence is cast-in-place concrete, while the interior is wrapped in a Douglas Fir wood liner. The residence is capped with a green roof system. The guest house hovers above, providing privacy and views.
